Meth
Addiction is perhaps one of the worst diseases that can afflict
human beings. No disease destroys both the body and the soul,
more quickly than Meth addiction does. Only physicians see the
widespread destruction of the brain, the teeth, the skin, and
deal with the psychological damage from Methamphetamine (Ice,
Crystal, Crank, Speed). Only physicians have to care for both
the addicted adults, and their children who are in serious danger
from the depravity Meth addiction causes. Physicians know that
NO ILLEGAL DRUG ENDANGERS KIDS MORE THAN METH.
In 2004, 280 Iowa physicians, mostly pediatricians, family practice
and ER docs, decided to become leaders on this health problem.
They came from all counties, and Meth Endangers Kids Foundation
was established. In 2005, fifteen of these physicians met for
several meetings of the MEK Physician Advisory Board. A brochure
was designed and a website planned that would speak to kids
ages 10-14, in their language, about Methamphetamine.
Fifteen physicians, mostly from Pediatrics and Family Practice,
have volunteered to serve on the first MEK Foundation Physician
Advisory Board.
So far forty-five other physicians are supporting MEK Foundation
with financial support. Another two hundred physicians are getting
the Meth Endangers Kids brochures into the hands of kids and
parents.
Twenty percent of babies born in rural areas of Iowa are testing
positive for Meth exposure. Their mothers were so depraved that
they could not stop taking Meth while they were pregnant. Half
the houses where Meth is being made with toxic chemicals, have
small kids in them. If parents are addicted to Meth, there is
nothing they will not expose their kids to.
Children often are introduced to Meth by their own parent, or
by the parent of a friend. Kids are frequently molested by drug
friends of their Meth addicted parents. Kids are often molested
by a Meth addicted dad, then used for making Meth or buying
Meth with sex.
Meth characteristically addicts with the first use. With the
12 month-long acute craving of Meth addiction, the success rate
for all existing treatment programs is 6%. |
